The Santa Fe Civic Housing Authority Inc. is committed to the financial and social advancement of lower income families. Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is an initiative of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to encourage communities to develop and implement innovative programs to aid unemployed and underemployed members of low income households. The goal is to help low income households to become economically independent through the cooperative efforts of the public and private sectors. FSS is a program designed to organize and provide training employment, education, counseling, and other services along with housing assistance in an ongoing system of self-help and eventual economic independence.
The objective of the program is to enable low income families to become economically independent of government assistance. Housing assistance is combined with other community resources to develop a community wide plan to overcome the barriers to financial independence.
The FSS Program is a great way to get help with goals such as earning a high school diploma or GED, getting a college education, finding and maintaining employment, clearing past credit problems, and qualifying for home ownership.
The FSS Program is a five year contract where at the last 12 months of the contract the family must be employed and no longer receiving cash assistance from the Welfare Department. Participants are also responsible for attending seminars and training on a monthly and or quarterly basis.
The FSS Program is open to Public Housing and Section 8 Rental Assistance Families. Please contact Santa Fe Civic Housing Authority to set up an appointment if you are interested or would like more information.
