The Santa Fe Civic Housing Authority, Inc.. began its operations in 1961 for the purpose of responding to the growing need for housing assistance to lower income residents of the community. The fundamental mission is to provide decent, safe, and affordable housing to the residents. To provide housing assistance, the Authority administers programs funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The SFCHA has developed a philosophy, which is committed to the improvement of the overall quality of life of public housing residents. Through existing and new programs it strives to promote access not only to existing human services network, self-sufficiency, independence, economic development and general empowerment of residents.
SFCHA administers both low rent public housing and Section 8 programs. In the low rent program, homes and apartments are currently owned and managed by the Authority. Our Section 8 program subsidizes monthly rents for eligible and low-income residents in privately owned housing. Families assisted in either program must have incomes at or below 50 percent of the area median income.
